We love all the variations available for lobes. We offer everything from a basic first set of piercings, to multiple sets, fancy configurations, and larger size piercings. This includes custom configurations like stacked piercings/constellations!

Ear Cartilage Piercings

Cartilage piercings are a beautiful way to accessorize your ears. Most folks can add these to their look, even in more conservative environments. Ear cartilage is structured a bit differently than fleshy earlobes, which affects how these piercings heal. This part of the ear is made up of a central core of cartilage which is attached to the outer skin via a membrane called the perichondrium. The cartilage itself does not have circulation or nerve endings, which makes these piercings heal slower than lobes, generally 6-9 months. It’s also important to protect these piercings from trauma like snags and sleeping on them, as this can damage the membrane leading to tenderness and swelling. It may be useful to keep your hair pulled back from your piercings while healing to reduce this trauma. We do have a few recommendations/policies for easier healing. First, most of these piercings will be started with some sort of post/bar. In general, rings tend to move more, which can prolong healing and encourage swelling and scar tissue formation. The exceptions would be rook and anti-tragus piercings, which are started with curved bars, and daith piercings, which actually heal easier with rings because they are tucked inside the ear. Most piercings can be switched to rings once they are healed if you prefer that aesthetic.

Next, we’ll only pierce cartilage on one ear at a time. During the healing process, it’s crucial not to sleep on these piercings. Pressure from sleeping can cause discomfort, excess swelling, prolonged healing, and even cause the position of some piercings to shift. Piercing one side at a time allows you to sleep on the other side, as well as talking on the phone and other activities. If you’d like to get the other side done, we can do that once the first side is no longer swollen. For tragus, daith, and some conch placements, it’s important to avoid in-ear headphone/earbuds and stethoscopes. These devices can press on healing piercings and transfer germs, leading to complications like excess swelling, bumps or scar tissue, or even infections. You’ll need to avoid these until the piercings are fully healed. In recent years, the industry has developed “faux” placements such as the “faux snug” and “faux rook”. Faux snugs were developed to replace the snug piercing, which is a notoriously difficult to heal piercing of the anti-helix fold. The faux snug bypasses the difficulties in healing this thick fold of cartilage by mimicking the look with a paired conch and helix piercing. A faux rook, on the other hand, gives folks with less than ideal anatomy a chance for the look of a rook piercing.

Orbital PIercing, Helix or Lobe

An “orbital” is when 2 piercings are connected by a single ring. The most common variations are in the helix at the top of the ear, or between 2 earlobe piercings. We strongly recommend booking a video consult before you book an actual piercing appointment. Please consider a backup piercing! Jewelry priced separately.

Industrial Piercings

Industrial piercings involve two (or more) cartilage piercings connected by some sort of barbell. The most “classic” style is a straight bar across the top of the ear. Due to variations in ear anatomy (shape, size, etc), not everyone’s ear is a great candidate for a “classic” style industrial. However, there are all sorts of variations we can offer, included pieces with bent/curved bars, vertical placements, L-bend or floating industrials and others. With a little creativity, we can offer you lovely unique options for your ear.
