We are limited in what piercings we can and will offer to those under 18, for legal and other reasons.
** Due to time and paperwork requirements, we can no longer accept walk-ins for minor piercings on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Please schedule an appointment online (Do I need an appointment?) or call us at 404-378-9100.**
For any minor wishing to get pierced, we need to feel that this is a conscious choice and that the aftercare will be followed. The piercer will have a consultation with the piercee and a parent prior to agreeing to any piercing. We will perform the following piercings with these age guidelines:
Earlobes, ages 10 & up
Simple and more complex ear cartilage, ages 16 & up
Nostril, ages 16 & up
Navel, ages 16 & up
For the piercings that we offer to those under 18 we need the all of following paperwork:
Valid photo ID of person getting pierced, such as a passport or Georgia State ID card. (We are not able to use school IDs and military IDs.)
Valid photo ID of parent
Proof of parental relationship, such as a birth certificate. We also need legal documentation of any name changes, if names on documentation do not match IDs.
Parent present during piercing.
Other piercings we either cannot legally perform, such as nipple and genital, or are unlikely to heal successfully because of continued growth or difficult aftercare. Our insurance also does not cover many piercings on minors, and we feel we cannot perform uncovered services for both your safety and ours.
The other major issue with piercing minors is that the results can be very unpredictable. Even though many 16- to 17-year-olds appear to have stopped growing their bodies do, in fact, continue to change in ways very important to the success of a piercing. Most professionals will not provide piercing services to minors on the well founded basis that it is unlikely to turn out well.
